Cyclone Idai

Gemfields confirms that its team and operations at the Montepuez Ruby Mine in northern Mozambique have thankfully not been affected by tropical cyclone Idai, one of the worst storms on record in the Southern Hemisphere.

Other parts of Mozambique (and Malawi and Zimbabwe) have suffered catastrophic damage, giving rise to a serious humanitarian crisis.

Given that the affected areas cannot readily be accessed by vehicles, we have opted to support rescue and humanitarian relief efforts by providing much needed financial support to the National Institute for Disaster Management (www.ingc.gov.mz).

Our thoughts are with the thousands of affected families
