Emerald Mini-Auction Results

Gemfields is pleased to announce the results of its series of five small and sequential emerald auctions held during the period 2 November 2020 – 11 December 2020. The mini-auctions comprised of a selection of grades that are typically offered at Kagem’s auctions of higher quality emeralds. Selected lots were made available for in-person and private viewings by customers in Tel Aviv, Singapore and Jaipur. Following the viewings, the auctions took place via an online auction platform specifically adapted for Gemfields and permitting customers from multiple jurisdictions to participate in a sealed-bid process.

Update on Gemfields’ Auction Programme

Gemfields Group Limited (“Gemfields”) hereby provides an update regarding its auction programme. Gemfields’ typical auction schedule consists of five to six auctions per year: two of mixed-quality rubies and three to four of emeralds (split between higher quality and commercial quality). In 2019, Gemfields’ six auctions accounted for 93% of total group revenue (approximately USD 200 million out of some USD 216 million) with USD 120 million of revenue derived from two ruby auctions and USD 80 million derived from four emerald auctions. The average number of lots offered at Gemfields’ emerald and ruby auctions to date is 24 and 72 respectively.

Lusaka Emerald Auction Results

Gemfields is pleased to announce the result of an auction of predominantly commercial quality rough emerald held in Lusaka, Zambia from 18-21 February 2020. The emeralds were extracted by Kagem Mining Ltd in Zambia (“Kagem”, which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% by the Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia). The proceeds of this auction will be fully repatriated to Kagem in Zambia, with all royalties due to the Government of the Republic of Zambia being paid on the full sales prices achieved at the auction.

Lusaka Emerald Auction Results

Gemfields is pleased to announce the result of an auction of predominantly commercial quality rough emerald held in Lusaka, Zambia from 19-22 August 2019. The emeralds were extracted by Kagem Mining Ltd in Zambia (“Kagem”, which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% by the Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia). The proceeds of this auction will be fully repatriated to Kagem in Zambia, with all royalties due to the Government of the Republic of Zambia being paid on the full sales prices achieved at the auction.

Singapore Ruby Auction Results

Gemfields is pleased to announce the results of an auction of rough rubies in Singapore from 11 – 15 June 2019. The rough rubies were extracted from the licence, held and operated by Montepuez Ruby Mining Limitada (“MRM”), which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% by local partner Mwiriti Limitada.

Singapore Ruby Auction Results

Gemfields is pleased to announce the results of an auction of rough rubies in Singapore from 10 – 14 December 2018. The rough rubies were extracted from the licence held and operated by Montepuez Ruby Mining Limitada (“MRM”), which is 75% owned by Gemfields and 25% by local partner Mwiriti Limitada. Highlights – Ruby Auction Auction revenues of USD 55.3 million; Of the 90 lots offered, 88 were sold (98%); Average price of USD 84.32 per carat; 655,623 carats sold out of the 685,363 carats offered (96%); and The eleven Gemfields auctions of MRM rubies held since June 2014 have generated USD 462.6 million in aggregate revenues.
